Description

Details
Chako came to us as the very largest Scarlet Macaw we have ever seen! Worse than that, he was even larger when he came to his previous caregiver. Chako has some serious weight issues and while we have managed to get him onto a very healthy diet and he's shed some of the excess, he'll need to be closely watched going forward as obesity is NOT a friend to parrots! Chako is a bit stand-offish at first, but warms up and really has the potential to be a great, friendly bird. As macaws go, Chako is pretty quiet. We don't know for sure whether he's quiet because he's normally that way or because he can't get a word in edgewise in the crowded, noisy rescue... but so far so good on the noise front!

Like most Scarlets, Chako is a nipper, and he is a typically unpredictable adult macaw, so the appropriate adopter should have plenty of experience with macaws. If you think you can handle Chako, please fill out an adoption application today!
