INFORMATION

Frank was surrendered to us by a Connecticut animal control officer in 2022.  He was 30 years old at that time.  He wasn’t allowed out of his cage by the original caretaker and so has been difficult to get out of his cage and can be timid and nervous outside.

Frank has been diagnosed with Amazon Foot Necrosis which causes him to chew his feet leaving them raw and sore and at increased risk for infection.  Since being here, he seems to only do it seasonally (spring/early summer).  He will need an adopter who has an experienced avian veterinarian and a willingness to bear the cost and close attention associated with this chronic health problem.  When he actively picks his feet, he will need a regimen of medications which are not overly expensive in and of themselves, but represent an ongoing cost of ownership that any adopter should be aware of up front.

Frank becomes aggressive the more he is in his cage so ideally he needs a caretaker who will let him out several hours a day.  He will be timid at first, but he does like to wander around the house on the floor so he will need a safe environment that will allow this behavior.  He has a fairly large vocabulary and can be very entertaining.  Also, he seems to get along with (or at least is not intimidated by) other birds.
