Please Note

EFFECTIVE 1/1/2020 - NEAR continues to receive more surrender requests than we can possibly act upon immediately. As a means of staying within our capacity limitations, it may take an extended period of time for us to act on your surrender request. While we make every effort not to turn any bird away, there may be cases where we simply cannot help within your requested timeframe. In all cases, we will work with you to find alternatives.

Veterinary Pre-Screening

PLEASE NOTE! For the safety of your bird and all the birds in the rescue, it is important for NEAR to do everything possible to ensure the health of birds entering our facility. We strive to maintain the highest possible health standards for all the birds in our flock.

If you have veterinary records for your bird, please provide them at the time of relinquishment. If you don't have a vet or can't get to one, we can obtain the screening services for $55.00.

We can always use donations and other financial assistance to provide health services for the birds in our care, however if you cannot afford to have your bird vetted, we will still approve the surrender.

NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE TURNED AWAY BASED ON ABILITY TO PAY FOR VETERINARY CARE!

Please consider providing a donation NEAR to help defray the cost of health screenings -- but understand that a donation IS NOT REQUIRED in order to complete the surrender.
